We offer a tried and true approach to non-melanoma skin cancer. We also take exception with the increasingly popular notion that Mohs microsurgery is the best approach for most tumors.  While we agree that Mohs has its place, we find it necessary to refer only about 1 in 1,000 tumors in our practice.  Occasionally we will enlist the help of radiation oncology for particularly aggressive or recurrent tumors.

So what makes our approach less invasive?  Since we deal with skin cancer every day, it is fairly easy for us to identify many cancers simply by observation.

When we find a tumor, we first do a confirmatory biopsy; once we have our tissue sample, we surgically remove any remaining tumor which is identifiable.  At this point we employ cryosurgery.  This is a sequence of two freeze/thaw cycles which kills any tumor cells which may have traveled down an adjacent nerve or blood vessel. This method has virtually the same cure rates as Mohs surgery in our experience, offers reasonably good cosmetic results and is far less expensive. Below are two examples of tumors that were treated with our method.
